Type A and Type B center drills are the two most commonly used specifications in mechanical processing, with core differences in their structural design and targeted application scenarios. Type A center drills only have a 60° working cone angle without additional protective structures. They are simple in structure, low in cost, and suitable for scenarios where there is low demand for center hole protection, such as ordinary shafts and small-batch prototypes. They can quickly establish basic positioning references for processes like turning and drilling. Type B center drills, on the other hand, have a 120° protective cone in addition to the 60° working cone angle. This protective cone can effectively prevent the working cone surface from being damaged due to collision or extrusion during clamping, handling, or multi-process circulation. They are especially suitable for workpieces with complex processes and high precision requirements, such as aero-engine shafts and precision gear blanks. By extending the effectiveness of the positioning reference, they ensure the stability of subsequent precision processes like grinding and honing. Both types use the 60° cone surface as the core positioning surface, but through the design of whether to have a protective cone, they respectively meet the economic needs of conventional processing and the reliability needs of high-precision processing.
